While the plate and tablecloth are the centerpieces of the table, it’s undeniable that glasses are also among the accessories that most define its style and elegance. Along with cutlery, they have a designated place in the table setting and help illuminate and decorate the table. While choosing the right glasses is important, it’s not always a simple matter. While the glass must match the tablecloth and plate, it must also stand out with its own character and originality.
Italy is rich in glassworks, such as those on the island of Burano in Venice, famous for their glassblowing furnaces, but in Lombardy there are still a few master glassmakers who handcraft glass using the lampworking technique. In their small, colorful workshops, each glass creation is unique, a true work of art. Goblets, vases, and cake stands of every shape and color, hand-painted with gold or platinum, or lustre-dyed, have captivated anyone who passes by their mesmerizing shop windows. While in my youth I accompanied my mother to purchase gifts selected from their original collections, now I turn to them to have increasingly personalized glasses and accessories made to make my table even more precious.
